So needless to say, I woke in a somewhat different mood when I heard children yelling outside my window at 6am. My children. On the trampoline. Yelling. Did I say at 6am?
Wade had already left to go to his 2nd job so I was the only adult in the house. It was up to me to hand out some disciplinin'. I stomped down the stairs as a low growl rumbled in my throat. I was M.A.D.
Of course under these conditions my approach and delivery was less than commendable. In fact, the consequences that roared out of my mouth probably did not fit the crime. But I was tired and I did not care. After spewing my disappointment all over my kids' faces and leaving them speechless, I stomped back up the stairs to try to get back to sleep.
Four hours later I woke up. My clock said 10am. I felt rested. I realized I hadn't heard any noise since that horrible awakening earlier, so I was naturally curious to know what my kids had been up to all that time. I decided to get up and find out.
When I walked downstairs into the kitchen this is what I found.

The kids had prepared a breakfast in the hopes that they could turn my mood when I woke up. It worked.

Annette baked a double batch of cornbread muffins and Lucas flipped a plateful of pancakes.

Everybody was much happier :-)

And of course, Annette brought one of her creations to the table...

I'm such a lucky mom to have such great kids.
Later I found out the breakfast was also a bribe to take them to the movies.
They knew it was a long shot, but they deserved it. Not for the great breakfast, but for the effort they put forth to please such a grumpy mommy.
I simply don't deserve them.
